Facts About the Program

The UK engineering co-op program is an elective, academic option for undergraduates in all seven programs in the UK College of Engineering: Biosystems and Agricultural, Chemical and Materials, Civil, Computer Science, Electrical and Computer, Mechanical, and Mining engineering. One-third of UK 's eligible engineering and computer science students participate in co-op. Employers located across the nation are consistent co-op partners - such as the National Security Agency and Dow Chemical Corporation. Local employers such as Lexmark and Toyota also participate. The company size is not important; the work assignments must, however, compliment academic programs. This is the traditional co-op model in which participants hire students to work for a total of three, full-time semesters (about four months each) alternated with semesters of study on campus. Many employers hire a pair of students who alternate with one another and are able to cover a full-time position over a period of two years.
