The
National Security Agency
In
2005, the UK Co-op Staff attended
the 50 th Anniversary celebration of the NSA's co-op program. The UK
co-op and alum group is one of, if not the largest, group there in Maryland
. NSA values the co-ops as new ears and eyes and fresh minds to brainstorm
solutions to critical national security issues that require extraordinary
technology. We cannot post the pictures of our NSA co-ops, nor can we
tell you specifics about their jobs. Most of the time I get co-op reports
that say - "You'll just have to trust me. What I did was way cool!"
We currently have 15 CS and EE's in co-op rotation.) They like our mathematically
based curriculum.
http://www.nsa.gov/careers/students.cfm
is a good site to explore if NSA interests you. There is a summer
program for mathematicians and a program for High School
students!
Information
that has been cleared, but is of a general nature about work assignments
includes: database management, required rock climbing classes, network
security projects, firewalls, VHDL, Special Operations Division (SOD)
traveling to remote destinations, TOY project for cryptographic applications,
quick response GSM and CDMA (Global System for Mobil telephone communication
and Code Division Multiple Access), project leader, and technical director.
Most
of our graduates have taken advantage of NSA's offer of full pay and
tuition for any graduate school in the country. This is after accepting
starting salaries of $62K and a bonus!
We
also have a significant number of UK/NSA alums who have returned to
Kentucky and are now successful entrepreneurs.
