Galen Rasche at Lexmark,
Co-op of the Year 2000

Galen Rasche,
pictured in Lego Land at the Disney Theme Park in Orlando , Florida
, graduated from Paducah Tilghman High School in 1997, then from UK
in 2002. He was in Orlando in January 2000 to receive recognition as
the national co-op of the year by the American Society for Engineering
Education. Galen is now working in R&D at the Southwest Research
Institute in San Antonio , Texas . Below is the news item from January

Galen Rasche
Named 1999 National Co-op of the Year
Galen Rasche,
a fourth year electrical engineering student in the BS/MBA program,
is the National Cooperative Education Student of the year as chosen
by the
Cooperative Education Division of ASEE and the Cooperative Education
Association. The Kentucky Association of Cooperative Education and Career
Employment had previously chosen him as the Kentucky winner for 1999.
Both awards carry a $1,000 scholarship.
Galen has
worked in the Advanced Technology Group of Lexmark International's Consumer
Printer Division for two terms. One of his primary responsibilities
with
that group was for the implementation of a working RF wireless communication
model. During this process he wrote the assembly code for transmitting
large blocks of data and communicating bi-directionally over the wireless
transceiver. In addition to this, he has also developed ASIC controllers
for both USB and IEEE 1394 interfaces. As part of this process, he learned
to use the design tool Renoir (for VHDL) and ModelSim software simulation
tool. Another area in which he has been very active is that of Intellectual
Property development. He has submitted several invention disclosures,
three of which have been rated "protect" and are being investigated
for patentability by Lexmark's IP Law office.
