    Ed Roberts, biosystems and agricultural engineering, has been selected as an Honorary Member of the Agricultural Education Society.

    Dr. Stephen Workman Named 2002 Lutes Award Recipient
    Dr. Stephen Workman has been named the recipient of the 2002 Henry Mason Lutes Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Education. Dr. Workman received the award at the College of Engineering's Special Recognition Ceremony for 2002 graduates on May 5.

    Presentations
    Drs. Larry Hassebrook and Daniel Lau, electrical and computer engineering gave the presentation, "Composite Pattern Projection For Real-Time 3D Video Acquisition," at the 3D Sensor Workshop, hosted by DARPA and the Air Force Research Laboratory.

    Dr. Frank Huggins, Consortium for Fossil Fuel Science/CME, gave an invited presentation at the Synchrotron Environmental Science II conference held at Argonne National Laboratory, Chicago, IL, May 6-8th.

    Dr. J.M. McDonough, mechanical engineering, presented the paper entitled "Parallelization of a Genetic Algorithm for Curve Fitting Chaotic Dynamical Systems," co-authored by Dr. T.L. Yang (ME post-doctoral fellow) and Dr. J.D. Jacob, at the International Conference Parallel CFD 2002

    Research Funding
    Dr. Robert Adams, electrical and computer engineering, has received funding from Duke University for his proposal "Develop Well-Conditioned Boundary Integral Equations for Harmonic Electromagnetic Simulations".

    Dr. John Crofton, associate professor of electrical and computper engineering at the University of Kentucky and associate professor of physics and engineering at Murray State, is one of a group of researchers at from Auburn University, Penn State University and CREE Research Inc. have received a research grant in the amount of $1.7 million from the Wright Patterson Air Force Research Laboratory to develop high temperature contact metallization and packaging technology for use in silicon carbide (SiC) microelectronic devices.

    Dr. Paul Goodrum, civil engineering, has received a grant from the American Society of Safety Engineers for his proposal "Effectiveness of Safety Incentive Programs in Construction".

    Dr. Kozo Saito, mechanical engineering, is the principal investigator on a grant from Innovative Productivity, Inc. for his proposal "Surface Coating and Inspection Techniques".

    Melissa Barrett, chemical engineering undergraduate, has been selected as the recipient of the Donald F. Othmer Award for the AIChE Student Chapter at the University of Kentucky, Paducah.

    Dharmesh Bhanushali, chemical engineering doctoral student, won first place in the student poster paper competition at the North American Membrane Society (NAMS) Annual Conference, Long Beach California.

    Ferdy Martinus, mechanical engineering doctoral student, received the best student paper award at the 2002 International Appliance Technical Conference

    Kim May, chemical engineering doctoral student, won the second place award in the student poster paper context at the North American Membrane Society Conference

    UK-SAE Compete in Formula SAE Competition
    For the first time since competition began in 1981, the UK Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) competed in the 2002 Formula SAE Competition May 15 - 19 at the Pontiac Silverdome, Pontiac, Michigan.

    Engineering Class of 2002 Receive Degrees
    More than 520 students graduated from the College of Engineering with B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees at the University's commencement exercises on May 5, 2002.

    Staff Senate Representatives Chosen
    The following individuals have been elected to the newly formed UK Staff Senate representing employees in the College of Engineering.

    COE Faculty and Students Volunteer at International Science Fair
    A number of College of Engineering faculty and students volunteered their time as judges at the INTEL International Science and Engineering Fair was held May 13-17 at the Louisville Convention Center. Nearly 1250 high school students entered the fair including 27 from the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
