    Dr. Donn Hancher, the Terrell-McDowell Professor of Construction Engineering and Management, is the 2001 recipient of the American Road & Transportation Builders Association's (ARTBA) S.S. Steinberg Award.

    Dr. Frank Huggins, CFFLS and chemical and materials engineering, was presented an award from the American Chemical Society Division of Fuel Chemistry

    Dr. Christopher Jaynes, received a Faculty CAREER Award from the National Science Foundation. The NSF CAREER program provides funds for early-career development for those scholars that the NSF recognizes as most likely to become the academic leaders of the 21st century.

    Dr. H. S. Tzou, mechanical engineering, served as Chair of International Cooperation

    The UK Center for Manufacturing has been recognized by the Tri-County Economic Development Corporation of Northern Kentucky

    Research Funding
    The UK Center for Manufacturing has funded the project, "Computer simulation of the 2D dendritic growth of alpha phase in an A1-SI alloy."

    Dr. Judy Goldsmith, computer science, was recently awarded a grant from the National Scieince Foundation for the proposal "Theory Revision and Related Problems in Learning Theory".

    Dr. YuMing Zhang, electrical and computer engineering, has received funding for his project "The Control of Gas Tungsten Arc Weld Pool Surface.

    Faculty from the College of Engineering including Dr. Janet Lumpp, Dr. Eric Grulke, Dr. Zhi Chen and Dr. Rick Swiegard made presentations to the Rogers Scholars during July 2001.

    Dr. Suzanne Smith, mechanical engineering, and Dr. Christine Goble, civil engineering, and students Jennie Campbell, and Joe Istre spent a day at Lexington's Veteran's Park Elementary.

    Xiangming Cheng, materials engineering, has been selected as the winner of the 2000 ASM International Graduate Student Paper Contest.

    Mr. Jiantao Liu, materials engineering, placed second in the 2001 TMS Outstanding Student Paper Contest, Graduate Division.

    The Department of Computer Science held its Third UK Students Programming Contest on September 28.
