    Research Funding
    Environmental Research Center Funded
    Through the efforts of Drs. Gail Brion, civil engineering, Alan Fryar, geology, Frank Ettensohn, geology, and KYEPSCoR, are responsible a center focused on environmental research will be developed. $3.8 million of the $9.0 million awarded to KyEPSCoR by the NSF Infrastructure Program will be used to support environmental research. Approximately $2.4 million will go to UK to develop integrated, state-of-the-art Environmental Research and Training Laboratories (ERTL).

    Dr. Czarena Crofcheck, biosystems and agricultural engineering, is the principle investigator on the contract "Foam Fractionation of Engineered Proteins from Tobacco Plant Extract"

    Dr. Henry Dietz, electrical and computer engineering, has received funding from Western Kentucky University for the proposal "Development and Application of High-End Engineering and Geophysical CFD Models on Optimized PC Clusters˛

    Dr. Richard Gates, biosystems and agricultural engineering, recently received a grant for his proposal "Reducing Ammonia Emissions from Poultry Houses by Enhancing Manure and Diet Management".

    Dr. Winston Ho, chemical and materials engineering, has received funding for his proposal "Development of Novel Water-Gas-Shift Membrane Reactor for H2 Enhancement, CO Elimination and Fuel Cells"

    Dr. Larry Holloway, electrical and computer engineering, has been awarded a grant for the proposal "Device Controller Synthesis for Systems of Interacting Discrete-State Components"

    Drs. Mike Montross, Scott Shearer, Sam McNeill and Tim Stombaugh, biosystems and agricultural engineering, have received funding their project "Evaluation of Corn Stover Biomass Harvest and Storage Characteristics for Energy

    Dr. Lynn Penn, chemical and materials engineering, has been awarded a grant for the proposal "NER: Nanoscale Composites Based on Carbon Ribbons".

    Dr. Arthur Radun, electrical and computer engineering, is the recipient of a $15,000 grant from Mechatronic Systems for the project "SIC Inverter

    Dr. Jim Smart, chemical and materials engineering, Paducah Program, has been awarded a grant from the Department for Public Health for the project "CHS Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant Oversight
