James W. Tracy, Vice President for Research, has named Prof. Y.T. Cheng to the Frank J. Derbyshire Materials Science Research Professorship.  The professorship, named in honor of former UK chemical engineering professor and CAER Director Frank J. Derbyshire, was awarded in recognition of Prof. Cheng’s outstanding contributions to materials research and graduate education.  Prof. Cheng, who joined the materials engineering faculty in 2008, holds BS, MS and Ph.D. degrees from Caltech, and worked at General Motors R&D from 1987-2008.  Dr. Cheng was named a Fellow of the American Physical Society in 2005.
