Advising

For a better understanding of the pre and co requisites for your CE courses review the Curriculum Flow chart

To be awarded the degree of Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering a student must satisfy all of the following requirements:

  1. complete the required civil engineering curriculum,
  2. complete a minimum of 128 credit hours, exclusive of those earned in freshman college algebra and freshman college trigonometry. This is a minimum requirement of the College of Engineering (additional credit hours usually are necessary to complete Civil Engineering degree requirements),
  3. have a cumulative grade point average of not less than 2.0,
  4. have a grade point average of not less than 2.0 in the CE prefixed and technical elective courses,
  5. be accepted into the “Engineering Standing” division of the civil engineering program for at least the last semester,
  6. earned a grade of C or better in all but one of the CE prefix courses that are to be credited toward satisfying degree requirements, as well as in EM 221 – Statics and EM 302 – Mechanics of Deformable Solids. The exception is a D in one 400 or 500 level CE prefix course.
  7. have no delinquent financial obligations to the University.

No more than half of the credit toward an undergraduate degree may be earned by any combination of special examinations, Advanced Placement Examinations, CLEP ex-aminations, and correspondence courses. A minimum of 30 of the last 36 credits presented for the degree must be taken from the Univer-sity, but not necessarily on the Lexington campus. Students who wish to earn credit through independ-ent study by correspondence, special examinations, CLEP, and other methods must have the prior approval of the Department Chair and the College Dean.

Degrees are awarded three times a year – in August, December, and May. Each student must file an application for a degree with the Dean of the College of Engineering. A degree application must be submitted within 30 days after the beginning of the semester (or 15 days in the 8-week summer term) in which completion of degree work is anticipated. Specific deadline dates are published in the “Schedule of Classes” (see Infor-mation Sources). Students who apply late, or who fail to apply at all, will not graduate at the expected time.
