Civil engineering students have a many options for building relationships with fellow students, foremost among them the UK chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers. Field trips, lectures by distinguished engineers and competitions against other engineering schools in tasks such as concrete canoe and steel bridge construction are only a few benefits of ASCE membership.

Students can also join groups such as Chi Epsilon (the national civil engineering honor society), the Institute of Transportation Engineers, Engineers Without Borders, the National Society of Black Engineers, the Society of Women Engineers and the Tau Beta Pi honor society.
