Dr. Lirong Tong, Senior Research Associate

Dr. Lirong Tong is a Senior Research Associate for the Center for Aluminum Technology, performing the Research on the mechanical and physical metallurgy of aluminum alloys.

He received his Ph.D. in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering from the University of Alabama in 2006.

Dr. Tong has the expertise in materials analytical techniques, including XRD, SEM, TEM, OM , TG-DTA, DSC, and particle size and size distribution analysis using laser scattering technique and BET method. He also has strong hand–on experience in identifying and solving problems in various materials processing, failure analysis and mechanical property testing of materials. He is proficient in the commercial simulation software, including Fluent 6.2, HSC (thermodynamical analysis).
