Tutoring

There are several options for tutoring.  Please see the list below or see “Student Services and Activities”  in the UK Bulletin for specific details about tutoring and learning service centers.

“The Study” – Peer Tutoring Program

The peer tutoring program offers free peer tutoring in many intro level courses. The Peer Tutoring Program offers proactive assistance. The goal is to enhance students’ academic experience as early and as often as possible. Peer tutors are undergraduate students who are trained and have taken the courses they are tutoring. All tutoring is done on a walk-in basis, so students are welcome to come in (and even bring their study groups) anytime tutoring is available.  For location and more information look here:  http://www.uky.edu/AE/

Tau Beta Pi

All engineering students are encouraged to take advantage of the FREE tutoring offered every semester in the 1st floor commons of RGAN,  Sunday -Thursday,  from 3-9 pm each day.   Peer tutors that are engineering upperclassmen who have been successful in all levels of pre-engineering and engineering required courses are there to help you.  Watch for a notice in the Commons area each semester for an announcement regarding the exact starting date (usually about 2 weeks into the term).

In addition, two helpful online resources for assistance with math are “Paul’s Online Math Notes” (a google search will bring up the website) and “Wolfram Alpha”.

The Writing Center

The Writing Center offers free individual or group consultations for students‚ faculty‚ and staff. The Writing Center provides help for many kinds of writing: class assignments‚ creative writing‚ dissertations‚ scholarly monographs‚ grant applications‚ reports‚ articles‚ scholarship applications‚ and more. While the Writing Center does not provide editing services‚ it does offer instruction in grammar and style and will provide a list of freelance editors for clients producing work that is not earning grades and/or course credit. They are located in the Thomas D. Clark Study on the 5th floor of the Young Library. For more information‚ please call (859) 257–1356‚ or visit their website: www.uky.edu/AS/English/wc/

Mathskeller (Math Resource Center), Instructor-based

The Math Resource Center (Mathskeller) is specifically designed for students studying mathematics courses at the University of Kentucky. Tutors are free and available for students in 100–level math courses. Their tutors have excellent knowledge of math‚ as they are Math Graduate students‚ instructors‚ and Math Majors at University of Kentucky. No appointment for tutoring is necessary. The center is located in CB 63‚ which is close to the loading dock in the basement of White Hall Classroom building. Please call (859) 257–6108 or visit their website for more information: www.Mathskeller.com

eStudio

The eStudio, a space devoted to encouraging and improving the written, oral, visual, and digital communication skills of Engineering students, will offer free tutoring to international students.  Call 323-2678 or drop by room 108A (the glassed in area) in the Raymond Student Commons area of Ralph G Anderson Building and work with one of our exceptional Engineering student tutors. Hour-long consultations with a tutor are free and available to all ESL graduate and undergraduate students in the College of Engineering.
