Applying for your degree: Students are required to file a formal “Application for Degree” online through the myUK portal
Deadlines:
- For a May graduation: November 30th
- For an August graduation: February 28th
- For a December graduation: June 30th
Missed the deadline? You may still be allowed to apply. Go to College of Engineering Student Records office, room 375 RGAN, 859-257-7978, to obtain current information and procedure.
Then what? Watch closely for emails from the College of Engineering regarding:
- Any alerts regarding your academic record
- Dates for having your photograph taken for the graduating class composite
- College events at Commencement

Graduation with Honors –
The following criteria is used to determine an undergraduate student’s eligibility to receive graduation honors.
- “Summa Cum Laude”: A grade point average of 3.8 or higher for at least three years of work (90 hours) at the University of Kentucky (excepting correspondence study).
- “Magna Cum Laude”: A grade point average of 3.6 to 3.799 for at least three years of work (90 hours) at the University of Kentucky (excepting correspondence study).
- “Cum Laude”: A grade point average of 3.4 to 3.599 for at least three years of work (90 hours) at the University of Kentucky (excepting correspondence study).
- Students with a minimum of two but less than three years of work (60-89 hours) at the University shall receive the appropriate commencement honors if they attain a grade point average of 0.2 greater than the above.
