Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) in Electrical & Computer Engineering at the University of Kentucky
Sponsored by the National Science Foundation
2012 Summer Program
May 31 - July 27, 2012
The Electrical & Computer Engineering (ECE) Department at the University of Kentucky is pleased to offer 10 undergraduate students an active 8-week summer research experience. Several projects are available in a wide range of areas within Electrical & Computer Engineering. Students will be exposed to faculty, graduate students, research staff, and other undergraduate students in a developing community that incorporates research activities with field trips, workshops, and other social activities. The program objectives are as follows:
- Improve student understanding of the nature of research practice and scientific reasoning
- Provide students with a collegial partnership experience with faculty, peers, and research staff
- Increase student appreciation of the importance of coursework to the understanding of engineering research
- Improve oral and written comprehension and communication of technical knowledge
- Expose students to research instrumentation, measurement techniques, documentation, and laboratory management
- Encourage greater interest in graduate school and research careers
The ECE Department offers B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering and a new B.S. degree in Computer Engineering. We have approximately 300 undergraduate students and about 110 graduate students; over 25 faculty members who are engaged in training the minds of some of the best and the brightest in Kentucky and beyond, and performing nationally recognized, cutting edge research in nanoelectronics and microelectronics, optoelectronics, laser micro-machining, solar cells, supercomputing and video walls, computer architecture, analysis and design of very large scale integration (VLSI) chips, signal and image processing, control and manufacturing, electromagnetics, power systems and biomedical systems.
