Former Chemical Engineering Chair and Professor Hamrin Passes Away

Former University of Kentucky College of Engineering faculty member and department chair Dr. Charles Edward Hamrin passed away October 19. Dr. Hamrin taught chemical engineering at UK from 1968-2001 and served as chair of the Department of Chemical Engineering from 1988-1992.

Dr. Doug Kalika, chair of the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering at UK remarked, “Charlie exhibited a passion for chemical engineering and a strong interest in the success of students at all levels.  He thoroughly enjoyed working with young people, and firmly believed that the role of an engineering faculty member was to not only prepare students for successful technical careers, but also to help them develop as outstanding individuals and contributors to society.”

In addition to his influence as a faculty member, Dr. Hamrin is remembered as a man who reached many young people through his work with Young Life and his local church. He is survived by his wife, Ruth, three children and five grandchildren.
