Summary:  My research work has contributed to the general area of signal processing and communications systems with applications in medical imaging, non-destructive evaluation, radar detection, image processing, and audio signal processing.  I have 29 journal publications in print, 48 conference publications, and have been PI or Co-PI on grants totaling about $4 million in external funding.  I have advised 32 MS Students, 3 Ph.D. students, taught over 70 classes at the graduate and undergraduate level with higher than average teaching ratings, and developed an undergraduate signal processing laboratory course and a senior level audio signal processing course.  I served the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department in an administrative capacity from 1994 through 2005; 3 years as Interim Department Chair, and 8.5 years as Director of Undergraduate Studies.  As Department Chair I worked with the Computer Science Department to develop a proposal for research enhancement funds that resulted in 3 new faculty positions, 1 new technician position, and $700,000 in funds to develop research infrastructure in the Electrical engineering Department.  I hired 5 faculty members while department chair.  As Director of Undergraduate Studies, I streamlined our methods for evaluating transfer students, developed new criteria for accepting students into upper division, helped transition the department to an outcome assessment-based undergraduate program, and I directed the work for 2 successful accreditation reviews under ABET 2000 criteria.  I have consulted with business and industry for the design and evaluation of signal processing and automated classification systems primarily related to ultrasonic and acoustic applications.
